This causes significant problems as urban surfaces such as tarmac are impervious to water; creating flooding problems as the water is not absorbed into the earth. Leaving the excess rainwater to flood into the salt marshes, bringing with it any pollution from the urban environment that will irreversibly damage the fragile estuarine environment.”
